Le Gemmail at Montresor

When in Montresor  here in the Loire Valley you have to visit the 'Exhibition le Gemmail' on display in the 'Halle des Cardeux' it is breathtaking. Gemmail a process developed in the late 1930's in France by artist Jean Crotti it became known as the 'Art of Light'. Popularised during the 1950s with works inspired by paintings by Picasso, Degas, Monet and others, Picasso actually produced a number of pieces himself. The derivation of the name comes from combining the words 'gemme'  a precious stone and 'émail' enamel the binder used to build up the three dimensional panels.
