Bon week-end from the Loire Valley.

Sun setting over the River Loire at Saumur with golden reflections across calm water and silhouetted trees along the horizon.

The Loire rarely rushes and at the end of the day it seems to slow even further. At Saumur, the evening light stretches across the water until river and sky become almost the same colour.

Sunsets here have a way of simplifying things. The details soften, conversations quieten and attention drifts toward the changing reflections rather than the passing of time.

The Loire is France’s longest river and often called its last wild river, shaped more by seasonal change than by heavy engineering. Around Saumur, that shifting character means no two evenings on the water ever seem quite the same.

Bon week-end ! – Château de Cheverny in full bloom!

Château de Cheverny – elegant white château in its park, still owned by the same family for centuries. One of the loveliest in the Loire Valley.
One of the most elegant châteaux in the Loire Valley.

Château de Cheverny sits proudly in its park, surrounded by formal gardens and woodland. The château is still lived in by the same family that has owned it for over six centuries, which gives it a particularly warm and lived-in atmosphere. The interiors are richly furnished, and the grounds include beautiful gardens and a pack of hunting dogs that are still used today.

The main draw currently however is the rivers of tulips that sweep through the grounds - a must visit if you have not seen before now.

Bon week-end à tous ! Have a good weekend, everyone! 🇫🇷🏰

Bon week-end from Château de Villandry

Looking out from the upper terrace balustrade at Château de Villandry, where perfectly sculpted urns frame the iconic Renaissance château and its world-famous gardens. Built in the early 16th century and lovingly restored in the 20th, Villandry remains the ultimate celebration of French formal gardening, ornamental vegetable plots, water features, love gardens and more.

The grounds are waking up a perfect moment to pause, breathe in the fresh air, and wish you a joyful, restorative Bon week-end. If you're in the region, the gardens are open and glorious right now!

Wherever you are, may your weekend feel this calm and beautiful in such difficult times. 🏰

Bon week-end ! – Château de Montrésor.

Château de Montrésor from the Indre river – white towers reflected in the water, village houses below. Calm March view in southern Touraine.

A peaceful view across the Indre towards the château.

From a bridge over the river bank, the château rises above the trees and village houses, its white stone walls and slate roofs reflected in the calm water. The round towers and conical roofs stand out against the sky, with the village clustering below.

Montrésor is a quiet spot in southern Touraine, the château privately owned but you can visit and it is worth a look. In March the water is still, the trees bare, and the scene feels calm and open.

A reminder: Loire weekends are often best when you seek out the smaller chateaux and villages.

Bon week-end à tous ! Have a good weekend, everyone!

Bon week-end ! – Place Plumereau, Tours

Place Plumereau in Tours – medieval half-timbered houses, cafés on the cobblestones, February calm under the plane tree.

A perfect weekend spot where the tables are already waiting.

Today's view: Place Plumereau in the heart of Vieux Tours, one of the most charming medieval squares in the Loire Valley.

Half-timbered houses with their exposed beams and slate roofs frame the cobblestone square, while cafés and brasseries spill out with wicker chairs, umbrellas and people lingering over coffee or a glass of local Touraine wine. The big plane tree in the center casts dappled shade and the whole scene has that effortless, timeless feel, history all around, yet very much alive with locals and visitors chatting, laughing, and enjoying the mild February light.

In February the square is quieter, the crowds thinner, and the cafés feel more like they belong to the town than to passing tourists. It's the kind of place that invites you to slow down: a slow brunch, people-watching, or simply sitting and letting the atmosphere wash over you.

May your weekend be full of simple pleasures, good coffee, good company, and maybe a little Loire magic.

Bon week-end à tous ! Have a good weekend, everyone!

Bon week-end ! – Jardin Public René Boylesve, Descartes

Jardin Public René Boylesve in Descartes – gazebo, winter trees, historic church backdrop.

A quiet garden invites the weekend to begin gently.

The Jardin Public René Boylesve in Descartes in Southern Touraine, is a charming public garden laid out on the site of a former medieval stronghold.

With winding paths, a pretty central gazebo, rare and exotic trees, a rose garden (including the "Descartes" rose), and views toward the old church and stone walls, it's a hidden (not to us!) gem for a stroll or bench pause. Named after the writer René Boylesve (who drew inspiration from this region), the garden offers that perfect mix of history and nature in a small, walkable town famous for its 'three Renés' (Descartes the philosopher, Boylesve the novelist, and composer René de Buxeuil).

A simple wish as the week ends, find a quiet corner like this, breathe in the fresh air, let the bare branches frame the sky and enjoy whatever the weekend brings.

Bon week-end à tous ! Have a wonderful weekend, everyone! 🌿🇫🇷
