Taken in Touraine, sunset at Château de La Guerche.

Château de La Guerche at sunset with stone towers beside the river and warm evening light reflected on the water in Touraine.

Some places seem made for the quieter ends of the day. Last night at Château de La Guerche, evening light softens the stone, the river becomes a mirror and the towers settle into silhouette against the fading sky

There is nothing dramatic here, just that familiar Touraine combination of water, history and stillness. The bridge gives a fleeting pause, long enough to notice how little the scene has changed in spirit. Remove the railings and it could belong to another century.

Château de La Guerche stands beside the Creuse and retains the character of a fortified residence, where water was once part of the defense as much as part of the view. Today it is the reflections rather than protection that catches attention.

Thursday's 'taken in Touraine'...Château du Rivau.

Château du Rivau in Touraine surrounded by trees and gardens beneath a bright blue summer sky in the Loire Valley.Part fairytale fortress, part Renaissance residence, the Château du Rivau rises somewhat unexpectedly from the Touraine countryside near the village of Lémeré.

Today the château is famous for its remarkable child friendly gardens, especially its roses. On the 6th and 7th of June, the annual Rose Festival returns, when the gardens are at their most colourful and fragrant, drawing visitors from across the Loire Valley and beyond.

A visit back in 2022...

Taken in Touraine - Tour Vironne, Château du Grand Pressigny.

The impressive Tour Vironne (Vironne Tower) at Château du Grand Pressigny in the Touraine region, rising dramatically against the sky and seemingly separated from the main château, surrounded by trees and fields.

A striking silhouette in the Touraine countryside, the Tour Vironne at Château du Grand Pressigny.

Standing seemingly apart from the main château in this shot, the Tour Vironne rises proudly like a solitary sentinel. This powerful stone tower, with its crenellated top and domed lantern, creates a particularly photogenic and mysterious presence when viewed from the surrounding fields.

Château du Grand Pressigny is a fascinating site with a long history dating back to the Middle Ages. While the main buildings have evolved over the centuries, this imposing tower retains a strong medieval character.

The name “Vironne” is believed to come from an old local term, and the tower once served defensive purposes. Today, it stands as one of the most distinctive and memorable features of the castle, especially when framed by spring greenery as seen here.

Part of the charm of exploring Touraine is discovering these architectural gems that feel both grand and quietly intimate.

Taken in Touraine: Saint-Ours Church from Les Prairies du Roy.

View of the Church of Saint-Ours with its twin spires rising above the village, captured from Les Prairies du Roy meadows in Touraine, Loire Valley, framed by trees and green fields under a blue sky.

A beautiful spring view across the meadows of Les Prairies du Roy, captured yesterday, where the striking twin spires of the Church of Saint-Ours rise gracefully above the trees.

Framed naturally by the foreground foliage, this peaceful perspective captures the harmonious blend of nature and heritage so typical of the Touraine region. In the distance, the historic church stands proudly alongside the rooftops of the village, with a château peeking through the greenery on the right.

Les Prairies du Roy offers one of the most scenic and serene vantage points to admire this lovely corner of the Southern Touraine.

Taken in Touraine - the keep at Château du Grand-Pressigny

looking through the trees onto the ruins of the keep at Château du Grand-Pressigny

A peaceful view of the ruins of the keep at Château du Grand-Pressigny captured on Tuesday.

The historic stone tower rises against the clear blue sky, framed gently by spring branches in the foreground. A quiet path leads toward the castle, inviting a slow wander through the grounds.

Its location in the heart of Touraine makes it an easy stop when exploring the region. The site is open to visitors and offers a calm atmosphere perfect for photography or simply enjoying the countryside.

Taken in Touraine – View Toward Église Notre-Dame, Yzeures-sur-Creuse

Cloudy skies over southern Touraine... a quiet path leads the eye to the village spire. 🌳⛪

A scenic outlook in Yzeures-sur-Creuse (Indre-et-Loire), looking across hedgerows, fallen leaves, and the Creuse valley toward the Église Notre-Dame.

The church, rebuilt in neo-Romanesque style between 1895 and 1903 (architect Jean Hardion), stands on the site of an ancient Gallo-Roman temple dedicated to Minerva—evidenced by sculpted blocks and Merovingian sarcophagi discovered during foundations. Its tall spire and stone silhouette dominate the village skyline, a landmark in this peaceful riverside commune (confluence of the Creuse and Gartempe), one of the oldest continuously occupied sites in Touraine (traces back to Upper Paleolithic times).

This viewpoint offers classic Touraine serenity: rural rooftops, and the gentle rise of the church against the clouds. Yzeures-sur-Creuse is a hidden gem for quiet walks, with nearby museums (Musée Minerve, Musée Mado Robin) and spa vibes from La Roche-Posay just across the river.

Taken in Touraine: these understated views remind us the Loire's magic often hides in small villages—history, nature, and calm all in one frame. What's your favorite off-the-beaten-path spot in the region?

Bon jeudi dans la vallée de la Loire ! 🇫🇷🌿
