This year's visit to Chateau de Cande on a lovely bright sunny day in September saw us seeking out a number of their well-placed benches in the grounds to catch a bit of shade. This particular one gives you that plus this stunning view.

Tuesday for towns and villages - the pretty Yévre-le-Chatel

Listed as one of 'les plus beaux villages de France', Yévre-le-Chatel in Loiret is at first glance unremarkable but as you walk its pretty streets you can begin to understand what has attracted many artist over time to the village. It has the ruins of a 13th century castle, a Romanesque church and the intriguing unfinished nave of a second church. 'Most beautiful'?, perhaps not, but worth a walk around if you are in the area.

The Château de Châteaudun is a castle located in the town of the same name in the French department of Eure-et-Loir.
