On our second visit to the garden festival at Chaumont-sur-Loire last Wednesday I paid a bit more attention to the detail on the chateau itself.

Permanent gardens of Pres du Goualoup - Hualu, Ermitage sur loire

Today we continue exploring the permanent gardens at Chateau Chaumont-sur-Loire by visiting the Chinese garden 'Hualu, Ermitage sur loire' which is a joy to explore.

Now well established, this garden provides a lovely spot to shelter from the hot summer sun and even when the garden festival is busy you will normally find it more tranquil here.

Permanent gardens of Prés du Goualoup - Carré et Rond

Today we continue exploring the permanent gardens at Chateau Chaumont-sur-Loire by visiting the garden 'Carré et Rond'.This instillation, designed by landscape architect Yu Kongjian, has been here since 2013 as part of the Chinese gardens,our personal favourites at Prés du Goualoup.

You walk over water on a winding path with the red ribbon of colour making you imagine you are walking through a rain shower.

Permanent gardens of Prés du Goualoup - Le Jardin des Hypotheses

After our visit at the end of July to this year's annual garden festival at Chateau de Chaumont-sur-Loire we also took a walk through some of our favourite permanent gardens within 'Prés du Goualoup' the contemporary 10 hectare park within the chateau grounds.

It was during our very hot spell here in the Loire Valley so we tried to stay under some shade as much as possible. Our first visit was to 'Le Jardin des Hypotheses'   a colourfull display of open-air theatrical backdrops which are a delight.

Still time to visit the International Garden Festival

There is still plenty of time to visit this year's garden festival at Chateau de Chaumont-sur-Loire and we would highly recommend it. Both gardeners and culture vultures will find it captivating for as well as the gardens both within the festival and the chateau grounds themselves, there is also the annual contemporary art exhibition and chateau itself to explore.

Chaumont Garden Festival 2019 - garden 25 - 'Le Jardin de Sous Bois'

We finish taking you on a walk around the official gardens of the International Garden Festival at Chaumont-sur-Loire with garden 25 - 'Le Jardin de Sous Bois'.  It is the last garden by numbering but is actually the first garden most visitors come upon as it sits down to the right of the main path as you enter your journey through the festival. 2019 Chaumont-sur-Loire International Garden Festival

The theme for this years International Garden Festival has just been announced, this year's gardens will be designed around 'Jardins de Paradis' - looking forward to it already. The festival will run from the 25th April until the 3rd of November.
