Monday's Loire Valley chateau - return to Chaumont-sur-Loire

This week we are heading back over to Chaumont -sur-Loire for our Monday chateau and we are going to explore some of the gardens that feature in the 'Prés du Goualoup' within the grounds.This is a contemporary 10-hectare park laid out by the landscaper Louis Benech, where visitors  to the chateau and its garden festival can enjoy more gardens which are permanent...and a delight!

Chaumont-sur-Loire International Garden Festival starts today.

The theme of the this years edition of the Chaumont-sur-Loire International Garden Festival is “Gardens of Paradise”. If you are visiting this beautiful region and like gardens then this should be on to your 'to do' list.  You not only have the gardens specially created for the festival but you have the delights of the permanent gardens and grounds of the chateau.

Monday's Loire Valley chateau - Chateau de Chaumont- sur-Loire

Today we feature Chateau de Chaumont-sur-Loire which currently plays second fiddle to its great International Garden Festival. For us the best part of this chateau is the exterior view and its views over the mighty Loire river but combined with the garden festival ticket it makes for a great Loire Valley Experience.

Already looking forward to International Garden Festival 2018 at Chaumont-sur-Loire

Living here in Centre-Val de Loire it is easy for us to enjoy the annual International Garden Festival at Chateau de Chaumont-sur-Loire, one of the Loire Valley's most popular attractions.

The theme changes every year so as to keep the festival fresh although there are permanent gardens like the ones featured here which also delight. 

We await this year's theme with anticipation,

Chaumont Garden Festival 2016...

 CHAUMONT INTERNATIONAL GARDEN FESTIVAL 2016

This year the festival gardens are open between April 21st and November 2nd.

The theme for this, the 25th edition of the festival, is ‘GARDENS OF THE CENTURY AHEAD’

Over the years (it started 1992) the INTERNATIONAL GARDEN FESTIVAL in the grounds of the chateau at Chaumont-sur-Loire has built a reputation for presenting innovative garden designs around various themes by landscape gardeners from around the globe.We visit the festival every year to view the new displays and are yet to be disappointed.

 Prés du Goualoup

.The 10-hectare park of the chateau also hosts large art installations and the area 'Prés du Goualoup', a 2012 addition, has, among other things,a log whirlpool and a box-hedge lemon squeezer!

Jardins de Lumière

From the 1st July to the 31st August 2016  you can also take in " Light of Gardens " where original lighting transforms the festival gardens every evening (except Friday), from 10.00pm until midnight. You must enter before 11.00pm and can use your purchased day ticket for free access.
