Fete de la Musique 2019

This weekend ( 21st/22nd June) is the 'Fete de la Musique', the annual music festival here in France where musicians are asked to provide free (plus paid for concerts) live music in a variety of venues. The tradition inaugurated by the then French Minister of Culture in Paris in 1982 continues to reinvent itself with free concerts with everything from hunting horns to hip hop.

When hard work is rewarded

Village life in Centre-Val de Loire, much like the rest of France, is very heavily dependant on the local population to keep its community alive by making use of local amenities and by holding regular fetes. Le Grand-Pressigny in Southern Touraine is a good example of the locals pulling together to make sure that their village remains very much alive. The village has a number of associations and committees which are backed up the support the locals and etrangers alike who are working hard behind the scenes to ensure that its vibrant spirit isn't lost

The most recent event the annual 'L'Art et la Matiere' exposition within the grounds of the chateau in Le Grand Pressigny was on Wednesday this followed very successful summer events such as the fireworks for 'Fête Nationale' celebrations,

'Swing Pressigny'  with  the great 'Audrey et les Faces B',

and the 'Fete de la Musique'

Celebrating the 'Fete de la Musique'

Over the last couple of days France has been celebrating their 'Fete de la Musique' and here in the Loire Valley was no exception. I was delighted to be involved in a great night in Le Grand-Pressigny here in Southern Touraine...and there is still more to come.

Sound of music all over France...and in the Loire Valley

Last night in celebration of France's 'Fete de la Musique' the streets and squares all around the country were alive with the sound of music. These photographs were from Le Petit Pressigny's event in Southern Touraine.

A big part of the festival's success is the contribution made by the volunteers and musicians in the villages and towns in the organization and hosting of these events...a big shout-out goes to them.
