Crissay-sur-Manse.

Tuffeau stone houses in the historic village of Crissay-sur-Manse

Crissay-sur-Manse is one of the villages that gives southern Touraine its distinctive character. Many of its houses date from the 15th and 16th centuries, built in the local tuffeau stone, and the village still retains much of its historic layout.

Above the village are the remains of Château de Crissay, built on the site of an earlier fortress, while the 16th-century church of Saint-Maurice stands slightly apart from the main group of houses. Crissay’s period of greatest development came in the 15th and 16th centuries, when the village acquired many of the buildings that survive today.

Petite rue à Petit-Pressigny.

Village street on Chemin des Tuffeaux, Le Petit-Pressigny, with traditional tuffeau houses
Small lane in Le Petit-Pressigny - Chem. des Tuffeaux, take the lamp away and you take the years away.
The name Chemin des Tuffeaux is particularly appropriate here: Le Petit-Pressigny has several former underground tuffeau quarries, including sites at Bel Air, Les Caves and Gaillon.
