Today we feature a chateau that intrigued us for a while as we only ever caught site of it a the rare occasion we passed through the small village that it takes its name from - Vernueil-sur-Indre. Coming from the south your first glimpse is of the 15th century part of the chateau with its round tower crowned with machicolations.
Then as you drive through the village its 18th century part reveals itself from behind its walled garden. When we first spotted the chateau it was being used as a horticultural college which must have been interesting for its students but the practicalities of maintaining such a property saw its use as school cease in 2015. Since then a new use for the chateau and its grounds has been sought and we believe that since 2018 it has been going through work to restore it as a tourist site plus accommodation.
