Church for Sunday - Basilica Saint-Jacques-le-Majeu,

Today we visit the Romanesque basilica (11th /12 century) of Saint-Jacques-le-Majeu, collegiate church of Saint-Etienne, in Neuvy-Saint-Sepulcher (36) with its rotunda, styled on the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the roads to Saint Jacques de Compostela.

Its rotunda sits 22 meters in diameter and 16 meters high amd is made up of three levels with an ambulatory. It is supported by 11 columns to represent the eleven faithful apostles.

Its reliquary is said to contain two drops of Christ's blood and is the subject of a pilgrimage every Easter Monday.

The rotunda was added to an earlier church on the site which has, over the years, seen a number of modifications.
