Tuesday for towns - Le Blanc, Indre (36)

Today we revisit the town Le Blanc in the department of Indre,  considered by many as the gateway to the Brenne Natural Park. It is a town of two halves, connected by its bridge over the river Creuse which, after being washed away by a flood in the 16th century, would take 3 centuries to be replaced!

One of the town's prominent features is its former railway viaduct which is an impressive structure and which, according to Wikipedia (1885/86) only took a year to build. The contrast between the two parts of the town is fairly dramatic with, in our opinion, the high town feeling slightly neglected. There are marked walks around both parts of the town and as we have found out, they are well worth the shoe leather.
