Today we feature the church of Saint-Jean in the small village of Lurais which sits by the river Creuse in Indre (36). The church's origins date from the 12th century when it was built on the site of a building housing an oratory containing the relics of Sainte-Fercinte a 6th century martyr. He obviously fell out of favour as the church now dedicated to Saint John! The church was part of an original priory now long gone.
Of the original building only two barrel-vaulted spans and the bell tower, with its external access, remain. The current altar rather obviously, like the windows,is not original!
The late 15th,early 16th century, saw the addition of a chapel and a vestibule giving access to it.
