The Abbey church of Beaulieu-les-Loches has quite a history, It was part of an abbey complex founded here in 1007 by Fulk Nerra III who was buried here within the chancel.
The original church is partially demolished. The south wall was destroyed as well as the part at the level of the transept. In fact, the nave used to be twice as long. Only the north wall of the nave remains, attached to the bell tower.
The remaining nave now forms the new church with a new facade having been added in the early 20th century.
