Church on Sunday - Saint Prix, Noizay

Today we visit the church of Saint Prix in Noizay a village which sits 20 minutes east of Tours and north of the river Loire.

The original nave of the church dates from the 11th century

The side chapels were added in the 12th century and choir and apse in the 15th.

Its stained glass widows date from different periods with remnants of  some 15th century examples.

Where's Joan?

She is here with a broken banner but none the worse for that!

The 19th century church organ was originally in the church of Notre-Dame-la Riche in Tours.

Church on Sunday - Eglise Saint Nicolas Vihiers (49)

We visited the church of Saint Nicolas in Vihiers (49) when returning from a visit to the 'Parc Oriental' at  Maulévrier, driving by and catching its elaborate exterior we just had to stop!

The detail continued inside...

...the church you see today was built in 1874 replacing an early 12th century church which was destroyed, like many others, during the revolution.

The stained glass within the church are credited to  the master glass-makersDesjardins of Angers and Jean Clamens of Toulouse.

If you are ever passing this way we would recommend a visit!
