Church for Sunday - St-Pierre Cathedral, Saintes

We had to drive down from here in the Loire Valley to Bordeaux on Friday so decided to make a stop at Saintes en-route, a place we had not visited. On arrival we headed over the river Charente to check ou the mighty St-Pierre Cathedral.

This 15th century Gothic monument is hard to miss with it massive bell tower dominating the skyline.

Inside is as you would expect of such a grand building with its central aisle leading to a flamboyant altar.

Yesterday's where is it? - at Chaumont-sur-Loire

Yesterday's image was of a piece of art 'En Plein Midi' by Klaus Pinter which sits in the impressive  stable block at Chateau de Chaumont-sur-Loire.

You can read more about  Klaus Pinter here.

The stables currently plays host to this project, a sphere made up of a series of golden flowers and a number of different artist's work.

We actually consider that the stables ad dovecote are a piece of art in themselves!

Monday's chateau in Centre-Val de Loire - Chateau de la Verrerie

Just 15 minutes outside of the town Aubigny-sur-Nère, in the department of Cher is the very Scottish looking Chateau de la Verrerie. It was built on land which had been given to John Stuart, Count of Darnley, in 1422, in  recognition of his loyal services during the 'Hundred Years War' in the battle against the English. The chateau we see today was not actually built until the end of the 15th century by his grandson Béraud.
