Tuesday for towns - Chedigny prepares for its Rose Festival.

 

Took a walk around the beautiful Chedigny last week to preview their preparation for this weekend's 'Fete des Roses'. Let's hope the weather is kind to them.

Tuesday for towns - Descartes in Southern Touraine

The town of Descartes which sits on the river Creuse, in Southern Touraine within the Loire Valley was home to the  philosopher and mathematician René Descartes,thus its name change from the original 'La Haye en Touraine'.

You can visit his former home in the town but do not be expected to be taken back in time as it is more about his ideas than his lifestyle

The town comes alive on Sundays with its very popular market but normally it is a quiet place offering tranquil walks through its beautiful public gardens.

Monday's chateau in Centre-Val de Loire - Chateau de La Celle-Guenand

 

The former ancestral home of the baronies of Preuilly and Sainte-Maure the

15th/17th century Chateau de La Celle-Guenand sits in the centre of the small village of the same name in Southern Touraine. Now a private chateau offering options for holiday accommodation.

This year's Tour de France sees stage 6 commencing in Tours on the 1st July and taking in the sights and delights of Vouvray, Amboise, Chenonceaux and Montrichard, among others, on its way to the stage's finish at Châteauroux.
