Tuesday for towns - Descartes in Southern Touraine

The town of Descartes which sits on the river Creuse, in Southern Touraine within the Loire Valley was home to the  philosopher and mathematician René Descartes, thus its name change from the original 'La Haye en Touraine'.

You can visit his former home in the town but do not be expected to be taken back in time as it is more about his ideas than his lifestyle

The town comes alive on Sundays with its very popular market but normally it is a quiet place offering tranquil walks through its beautiful public gardens.
