The 'Old Walnut Mill' is a delightful 19th century 2 bedroom cottage in the village of Barrou in Indre-et-Loire, Centre-Val de Loire France. The village sits on the banks of the river Creuse surrounded by rolling countryside. It has welcomed guests from around the world who have enjoyed the ‘French village experience’. In 2016 we had the pleasure of receiving gifted painters who enjoyed the many opportunities to capture images of this very pretty part of France. The house is within walking distance of the village amenities, the restaurant, boulangerie, butcher and convenience store.

Quality two storey 3 bedroom  Loire Valley house for rent in the popular village of Le Grand-Pressigny in the department of Indre et Loire, France. The village’s location makes it an ideal base to explore the Loire Valley, its chateaux and other delights as well many of the attractions of the neighbouring department of Vienne such as Futuroscope. The village itself has a restaurant, two bars, boulangerie (baker) boucherie (butcher) and épicier (grocer) pharmacy and newsagent all within walking distance of the house.

Qu'est-ce que Quinze aout?

Quinze août is a French public holiday or a non-working day but it is firstly a religious (Catholic) holiday. It is the feast of the Assumption of Mary, that is, her ascension to heaven.

It was Louis XIII who popularized the feast of August 15 in France in 1638.  As he had no heir, he asks his subjects to organize processions in honour of the Virgin Mary to ask for help. Miraculously (?) this results in an heir, the future Louis XIV, the year after. So the August 15 processions became a tradition and the date a public holiday.

Recent cyclists who were visiting the Loire Valley chose to base themselves in the Village of Le Grand-Pressigny to take advantage of riding their bikes through the beautiful countryside and villages of Southern Touraine

Church on Sunday - Oratory of Germigny-des-Pres

"The oratory of Germigny-des-Prés is one of the oldest churches in France (806).

How to attract the tourists or jousting for position...

Chateau du Rivau is a very good example of a tourist attraction that does not take its clients for granted and is constantly working at improving what it has to offer.One of the highlights of their season is the popular jousting competition held over two days on the 12th and 13th of August.

Weekend of entertainment at the chateau in Le Grand-Pressigny

On the evenings of the 4^th/5^th/6^th August the chateau at Le Grand-Pressigny will be taken over by actors, musicians and circus performers as they present ‘Arts Scéniques et Vieilles Dentelles’

Not quite sure of the format as it sound a little complicated – my understanding is that the ‘show’ consists of eight theatrical performances, lasting about 15 to 20 minutes.Enrty price allows entry into the chateau museum.
