Priory Saint-Cosme re-opens...
After more than a year's work the new gardens and
a new itinerary for visitors were unveiled to the public back in February (2015). This
work included the restoration of walls, updating the pathways and an array of
new plants for the contemporary gardens which seek to capture the essence
of the poet Ronsard in what was his former residence. See more here

A visit to the monthly Chinon brocante...
Visited the monthly brocante (3rd Sunday of the month) at Chinon on Sunday Its location on the Promenade des Docteurs Mattrais (opposite the place Jeanne d'Arc) on the banks of the river Vienne is ideal.
If you are on holiday in the Loire Valley during the third Sunday of any month then it would be worth saving a visit to the town for when the brocante is on
Most of the exhibitors are professionals with a lot of quality products...
...but there are still some interesting objects on sale.
The medieval town of Chinon in the Loire Valley is well worth a visit with or without the brocante being on.

Local pastime...just what is a brocante market?
If you choose to come to the Loire Valley for you holidays one of the events you should try and experience is a local 'brocante' (pronounced 'bro-cahnt' - think car-boot or flea market).
Throughout the year almost every town has a day set aside for these. Also called 'vide greniers' (literally, empty your attic) these events give local people the chance to sell-off previously loved possessions, family heirlooms, things they have forgotten to throw away plus quite frankly, as is our experience, anything they can turn into a few centimes.
They are often joined by professionals adding a great mix of products for even the keenest bargain hunters. .
