A church for Sunday - Eglise Saint-Firmin Gordes

As we are currently visiting the south today we feature the church of Saint Firmin, in the hilltop village of Gordes in the Luberon. The churchis visible on the skyline as you approach it from the south but once in the village itself you have to seek out its entrance nested among the narrow lanes and buildings of the village.
The current church dates from the 18th century having been built on the site of an older 12/13th century church.
The inside of the church is decorated in bright colours reminicent of itial churches and has a rather ornate rabernacle on its main altar.
There are eight side chapels within the nave of the church each one dedicated to a different saint of a variety of trades such as locksmiths, blacksmiths, shoemakers and quarry-men etc., perhaps it once had a thriving artisanal community - for such a small village I found this rather surprising
Loved the ornate pulpit which sadly looks as if it wants to return to earth and is only prevented from doing so with the aid of well placed acrow props.
The still-working organ sits above the church entrance.

Where's Joan?
She is here, on her pedestal in front of a 'restoration needing' background
